Chinese Writing Grids Generators
Although some Chinese workbooks offer step-by-step writing grids for learners to practice writing Chinese characters, they do not always offer grids for every character. I can say that this is a headache for many Chinese teachers to create writing grids to teach the students stroke orders.
When I worked at a private language institute to teach Mandarin Chinese, my director asked us to create the writing grids by hands. Whenever we had to give assignments on character writing for our students, my colleagues and I had to draw the stroke orders step by step using our hands. This is just so time-consuming and painful.
Last year, I found a website called "Hanlexon" (www.hanlexon.org). This website offers a week of free membership to let teachers generate step-by-step writing grids for students to practice character writing. After trial, teachers can start a year of membership by paying $10 or continue free membership to only download worksheets. Since the whole year membership only costed 10 dollars, I purchased it. At the meantime, I was worried about once my membership expired, I would need to pay again to get the services.
Luckily, during my spring break, I found a website that offered step-by-step writing grids for free. The website belongs to Confucius Institute Online. The link is here.
To generate writing grids, users do not need to register or pay. They just need to type in the characters they wish to have step-by-step writing demo and grids. The generator allows up to 4 characters at a time.
