PinyinTones: A Simpler Way to Type Pinyin with Tone Marks
For many Mandarin teachers, typing Pinyin tones is a pain because they normally have to go online and convert numbers into tone marks.
For instance, if I want to type "ni3 hao3 (hello)," I have to open an online converter such as Chinese-Tools, and convert "ni3 hao3" into "nǐ hǎo." However, to copy and paste back and forth is just time-consuming and exhausting. Although Microsoft Word provides Pinyin typing option, it is still unstable and unavailable on some computers.
Now, Mandarin teachers can have a free and handy tool to use when typing Pinyin tones. The software's name is Pinyin Tones. An extra benefit about this software is that it can work with Windows 8, too!
After installing this software, one can type alphabets with numbers to create Pinyin with tone marks under the Japanese typing system (Japanese is just a name here). For instance, if I type "wo3," the screen will automatically show "wǒ." This software is developed by a Chinese engineer Tao Yüe who generously shares his work. To be honest, this software is by far the best Pinyin tool I have ever used! :)
TIP: This software only works with Windows platforms.
